ITINERARY - CHOOSE ANY 3 FROM THE FOLLOWING 10 OPTIONS
Option 1: British Museum
Mysteries of the British Museum: Civilization's hall of fame. The greatest collection of antiquities in the world. 10 exhibits are examined in detail: The Easter Island Statues, the Rosetta Stone, the Assyrian Carvings, the Devil’s Looking-Glass, the Egyptian Mummies, the Vindolanda Tablets, the Battersea Shield, the Hinton St Mary Mosaic, the Sutton Hoo Treasure and the Lewis Chessmen. Can we unravel these mysteries?
Open daily. Entrance: free.
Option 2: HMS Belfast
A Life on the Ocean Waves. Find out what it was like for Royal Navy sailors during WWII in this fascinating floating museum. Here's one amazing fact: the forward guns are officially pointed at Scratchwood service station 14 miles away on the M1 motorway! The sights and smells of life on-board are certainly brought to life. You can even have your photo taken in the punishment cell. A surprisingly interesting tour for young and old alike.
Open daily. Entry fee payable (family/group rate available). Not included in tour price.
Option 3: London Zoo
Animal magic. How about you, you, you? You can come too, too, too. Kids will enjoy the children’s petting zoo and ‘hands-on’ insect house. Scary! The famous reptile house featured in the first Harry Potter movie. Scarier: In 1843 the first keeper tried to charm a cobra. It bit him between the eyes and he died! Plus elephants and rhinos, monkeys and giraffes, lions and tigers, smelly and fun!
Open daily. Entry fee payable (family/group rate available). Not included in tour price.
Option 4: London Dungeon
Spooky network of tunnels underneath London Bridge station. All the infamous characters and horror stories of old London town are played out with the use of grisly exhibits and live actors. Much improved and more interactive experience from what it was a few years ago. Those of a nervous disposition are warned against this attraction. Younger children may also find it a little disturbing. Teenagers and the young at heart however, will lap it up. Includes rides and a horror shop.
Open daily. Entry fee payable (family/group rate available). Not included in tour price.
Option 5: Madame Tussauds
Waxing miracles. Established in the 1800s by Marie Tussaud, the woman who taught Marie Antoinette’s children to draw. She made death masks of the French royal family and moulds of guillotined victims. She settled in London in 1835. Now there's a fun glamour-party display for photo opportunities with celebrities, some of them disconcertingly real. Hmmm, celebrities as dummies... can you spot the difference?
Open daily. Entry fee payable (family/group rate available). Not included in tour price.
Option 6: Natural History Museum
Dinosaurs, Darwin & DNA. The story of life on earth in an architectural masterpiece. Amazing earth galleries tell the story of the world's origins and its fate. Incredibly lifelike animatronic dinosaurs will keep the kids quiet for a while! The silent zoo is truly awesome. Live creepy-crawly area, plus reptile and bird displays. Fun and interactive. Close by are the Science Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum.
Open daily. Entrance: free.
Option 7: Science Museum
Rockets, technology, the future. Loads of interactive stuff for budding Einsteins. Rail enthusiasts will get all steamy-eyed when they see the original locomotives Puffing Billy and Stephenson’s Rocket. Fun for kids, fascinating for adults too. Close by are the Natural History Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum.
Open daily. Entrance: free.
Option 8: Tower Of London
Blood, Bling & Beefeaters. Officially known as Her Majesty's Palace & Fortress but once described by Shakespeare as 'The Slaughterhouse', the Tower is London's oldest building. This tour has the tragic tale of Henry’s second wife Anne Boleyn as its central theme. Also see the Crown Jewels, king of bling! Seek out the mysterious ravens and hear how the Beefeaters look after a London landmark simply packed with history.
Open daily. Entry fee payable (family/group rate available). Not included in tour price.
Option 9: Duck Tour
Even though they are technically a competitor to Your London Tours, it has to be said that the London Duck Tours are very well suited to family entertainment. We board a bizarre-looking bright-yellow amphibious World War Two relic with the other passengers next to the London Eye. It takes us on a panoramic tour of the West End before diving into the River Thames, right next to the ‘James Bond’ secret service building on the south bank. After a short cruise the vehicle emerges dripping wet but ready to finish off the tour. On board commentary provided. Really good fun.
Open daily. Entry fee payable (family/group rate available). Not included in tour price.
Note: Tickets must be ordered in advance and are non-refundable. Your London Tours takes no responsibility for any failure of service on the part of London Duck Tours.
Option 10: Harry Potter mini-tour (not available on public transport version)
A two-hour private driving tour of Muggle London for wizard families with a sense of adventure! This tour uncovers the film locations made famous by J.K. Rowling's classic kids' bestsellers. There's the Ministry of Magic, Diagon Alley and Gringott’s Bank. Both film versions of the Leaky Cauldron entrance are visited. There's also a photo opportunity at platform 9¾ at King’s Cross, the famous station from where the Hogwarts Express departs. Also see the hotel where Harry and Ron took off in their flying car and discover the place where Hagrid bought a hamburger (true!).
