THEME & ITINERARY
This walk examines the events, institutions and individuals that have impacted on the City of London. Today, it is regarded as the belly of banking, the heart of insurance, the nerve-centre of trading. In short, the business capital of the world. But if we dig a little deeper, we will find that those ancient street names evoking the old trading roots can lead us on a fantastic soulful journey through the world’s financial torso:

There are some particularly strong literary links. Perhaps this is why it led the novelist Charlotte Bronte to declare: ‘In the West End you may be amused, but in the City you are deeply excited.’

The wide variety in architectural style reveals the City has suffered its share of adversities. However, like the song says, ‘From the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success’, and the City developed a remarkable phoenix-like tendency to regenerate itself. Thus we find Roman remains alongside the latest high-tech skyscrapers, and Wren churches defiantly preaching from all corners.

Discover the story of the Great Fire of London, how cockneys got their name, and the Princess Pocahontas connection. Plus, the legends behind the Wall of Sacrifice, the men who saved Shakespeare from oblivion, and the site of London's most notorious prison.

If you still have some energy at the end of the walk, there is an option to visit St Paul’s Cathedral (entry fee payable).

HOW THE WALKING TOUR WORKS:

● Important note: This is a private walk for families or groups (up to 20). We do not offer options for individuals to join existing groups. Groups 21+ require additional guides.

● Dates: We recommend early booking to secure your preferred date. Dates subject to availability of guides and access.

● The guide: The walking tour will be conducted by a fully accredited & qualified guide who will confirm your itinerary and provide a friendly, knowledgeable commentary.

● Meet: The guide will meet your group outside St Paul's London underground station. Please do not block public access or exits while waiting for your walking tour to start.

● Timings: The duration of this walking tour is 2 hours approx. Start anytime after 10.00. Access to some areas may be restricted in late evenings/weekends.

● Health & Safety: Clients should be in reasonable health for a 2-hour walking tour. Clients are responsible for own safety when crossing roads, climbing steps, etc.

● Clothing: Clients should dress appropriately for a 2-hour walking tour making allowances for the changeable British weather.

HOW TO BOOK YOUR WALKING TOUR IN 3 EASY STEPS:

STEP 1: Send e-mail to tours@yourlondontours.com with the following information:
● Name or brief description of walk required.
● Date service required.
● Number of adults/children, age of children.
● Full address of hotel, place of residence or venue if to be met.
● Special interests or information to help us make your walk more enjoyable.
● Lead contact name and full billing address.
● Home phone number or cell phone number.

STEP 2: On receiving this information we will e-mail a reply confirming availability, price and payment procedure. If the walk is unavailable, eg, roads are closed or we are fully booked, we will inform you or provide details of another operator.

STEP 3: If you are happy with your walk booking please make payment as directed.
Payments can take up to 48 hrs to process. On receiving payment, we will e-mail a confirmation and receipt. Please check details carefully and e-mail us with any queries.

BOOKING POLICY AND NOTES:
• Bookings are dealt with on a one-to-one basis via e-mail only.
• We do not accept bookings with less than 72 hours notice.
• To secure your preferred date we recommend booking well in advance.
• All tours subject to availability. Booking will not go ahead until availability is confirmed.
• Tour is not guaranteed to go ahead until 100% of payment is received.
• Administration fees may be added for extensive itineraries or supplementary guide hire.
• We do not arrange flights, accommodation, travel tickets or tickets for events.
• We do not usually pre-book tickets for attractions. We recommended these are paid
for at the gate on the day. In circumstances where pre-booking is the only option for
attractions, tickets must be paid for in advance and are non-refundable.
