TYPICAL ITINERARY
London... the West End, the East End, the royal palaces, the old city, the new city, the sights, the sounds, the smells! Laugh, gasp and shake your head as you listen to the amazing history and legendary tales in this ultimate tour of arguably the greatest city in the world. Complete with a choice of interior guided visits or walks. Note that tour days do not necessarily have to run consecutively, so you can spread your Ultimate 3-Day London Tour over a leisurely week if you prefer. Your tour will be conducted by your personal fully accredited & qualified 'Blue Badge' driver-guide.

Day 1: Royal London, Guard Change, Kensington Palace, Afternoon Tea
Our Royal London day starts with a guided tour of the world famous Westminster Abbey, national mausoleum, focus for royal events, and one of the world's greatest churches. Kings and queens have been crowned here for a thousand years. It was the venue for the 2011 Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. It was also where Princess Diana’s memorable funeral was held. Your guide will take you through a gothic labyrinth where you’ll discover the royal tombs of the Virgin Queen, Bloody Mary and Mary Queen of Scots. See too, the famous Poets' Corner and the magnificent Henry VII Chapel ceiling.

Next, a stop at Buckingham Palace to see the climax of the splendid Changing-of-the-Guard ceremony: all the Queen’s horses and all the Queen’s men in a centuries-old pageant of colour. Your guide will bag you the best spot for photos and regale you with regal tales. Lunch can be arranged at an appropriate venue. How about a posh restaurant in the royal quarter? Alternatively, take traditional afternoon tea at one of London's most prestigious hotels.

In the afternoon visit Kensington Palace, set at the western edge of Hyde Park, known as Kensington Gardens. Royal history from the 17th to 21st centuries. The palace was famously the last home of Diana, Princess of Wales, and where Princes William and Harry were brought up. A young Victoria awoke here one day in 1837 to find out she was queen. Also on display is a collection of Diana’s dresses and the Queen’s outfits. The panoramic drive throughout the day includes a guided commentary of London’s famous ‘West End’, including Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square.

Day 2: Madame Tussauds, London Eye, Fish & Chips, Museums, Harrods
Our Fun London day starts at the world’s most famous waxworks museum, Madame Tussauds. Established by Marie Tussaud, the woman who taught art to Marie Antoinette’s children. She made death masks of the French royal family and moulds of guillotined victims. In her museum today there's a fun glamour-party display for photo opportunities with waxwork celebrities, some of them disconcertingly real. Hmm, celebrities as dummies. Can you spot the difference? Also features the infamous Chamber of Horrors.

Next we take a flight on the Eye, London's most popular paid-for visitor attraction. for a birds’ eye view of the city. The world’s biggest and most famous observation wheel was erected to celebrate the Millennium. It is 350ft high, turns at 1mph, and takes 30 minutes for a full rotation. It offers unrivalled views of London. Sit back and take in the vastness of the city, play the world's biggest game of ‘I Spy’, and be photographed as you 'come in to land'. Line-beating fast-track tickets available. Lunch can be arranged at an appropriate venue. How about proper fish & chips at London's oldest fish & chip shop?

In the afternoon, take a guided tour of one of London's great cultural museums or galleries. For example, the National Gallery, one of the world's greatest art collections. Attracting over three million visitors a year, the gallery forms a magnificent backdrop to Trafalgar Square and has been recently refurbished. Gothic to Renaissance can be found in the West Wing along with the Mannerists. The North Wing is a monument to the Baroque and Dutch masters. Rococo, revolution and romanticism is the theme of the East Wing, where we also find prominent British artists alongside the Impressionists such as Van Gogh and Suerat. Or the British Museum, civilization's hall of fame. Step into the Great Court and marvel at the magnificent glass roof. Below are the seven million objects that make up the greatest collection of antiquities in the world. Ten exhibits are examined in detail: the Easter Island statues, Rosetta Stone, Assyrian carvings, Devil’s Looking-glass, Egyptian Mummies, Vindolanda Tablets, Battersea Shield, Hinton St Mary Mosaic, Sutton Hoo Treasure and the Lewis Chessmen. Can we unravel these mysteries? Or visit the Victoria & Albert Museum. Biggest collection of decorative arts in the world. Known as the 'nation's handbag', it was built on the back of the success of the Great Exhibition of 1851 and illustrates the story of the British rich who had far too much money to burn on furbelows, fripperies and follies. Highlights include the Great Bed of Ware, Henry VIII's writing box and James II's wedding suit. So much more besides. The well-stocked shop sells examples of decorative arts as well as books, stationery and souvenirs.

Alternatively, visit Harrods. This famous store first opened in London in 1849. It boasts one million square feet floor space, 330 departments and 3,000 staff. Over 30 inhouse restaurants prepare and cook for 12,000 people daily. Why not take the opportunity to go shopping, with your guide as your chaperone? The panoramic drive throughout the day includes a guided commentary of local London districts.

Day 3: Churchill, Shakespeare, River Cruise, Pub, Tower of London
Our Historic London day starts by visiting the amazing Churchill War Rooms, former British WWII underground HQ where the conflict of World War II is brought to life. This series of underground war rooms was built in 1938, accommodating map rooms, cipher rooms, switchboards and emergency living quarters. They were closed down in 1945 and not re-opened until 1973. An amazing time capsule. Also features the superb Churchill museum, featuring interactive exhibits, mementoes from his life and the original door from No.10 Downing Street.

Then, take a cruise on the River Thames, the silver thread through London history, with guided commentary. View icons such as St Paul’s Cathedral, symbol of national pride, focus of London spirituality, and a glorious architectural masterpiece: 50 years to build, 300 years of history. Many important events have happened here: the funerals of national heroes Wellington, Nelson and Churchill, and you may recall THAT wedding dress when Prince Charles and Lady Diana got married here in 1981.

Next, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, a faithful re-creation of the famous 16th century theatre by the riverside, and scene of the Bard's greatest triumphs. Rebuilt in the 1990s by an American film producer using original plans and original materials. Wooden frame, thatched roof, and not a single metal rivet! The acoustics are incredible, the design having been based on a pub! It’s a working open-air theatre, exhibition and tour. Tickets may even be available for a performance. Lunch can be arranged at an appropriate venue. How about a traditional London pub?

In the afternoon explore the Tower of London, the city’s oldest building and a World Heritage site. Officially known as Her Majesty's Palace and Fortress but once described by Shakespeare as 'The Slaughterhouse'. The tour is themed around the tragic tale of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII. You will discover his cruelty knew no bounds. Also see the Crown Jewels, king of bling! Seek out the mysterious ravens, and hear how the Beefeaters look after a London landmark packed with history. The panoramic drive throughout the day includes a guided commentary of local London districts.
