Freedom!

The Flight of the Eagles Tour tells the story of the US 8th Air Force which flew multiple deadly missions during World War II. The tour also touches on the story of the most famous Flying Fortress Memphis Belle. In 2019, a documentary The Cold Blue, was released. Directed by Erik Nelson, it featured newly restored footage and outtakes from the summer of 1943 for the documentary ‘Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress’.

Cambridge

We first visit the Cambridge cemetery where many American airmen who sacrificed their lives are interred. For lunch we will visit the historic Eagle pub in the city of Cambridge, favourite watering hole of US airmen during WW2. Their ghosts still survive in the from of graffiti burnt into the ceiling by their ‘Zippo’ lighters.

Duxford

In the afternoon we visit Duxford, a military museum which features many United States connections. It is based on an aerodrome which was built during the First World War and was one of the earliest Royal Air Force stations. During World War II it served as a fighter station. There are a number of exhibitions in different hangars around the site including Land Warfare, Air & Sea, 1940 Operations Room and Battle of Britain. Most impressive is the American Air Museum which contains the finest collection of American combat aircraft outside of the United States including the awesome B52 bomber and an original Flying Fortress.

Tribute

Your London Tours chief administrator Frank Martins said: “2020, is of course, the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower and we have already launched our commemorative tour. But while that celebrates the English leaving their native home for liberty and freedom in America, our new tour celebrates Americans leaving their native home and coming to England, this time to fight for liberty and freedom in Europe. So if you want to be part of this tribute, make Your London Tours the first port of call for a trip to remember.”
